Steamed GT

Finally steamed it at Mike's place. Also brought along a middle piece of my snapper so he gets to taste it also. The snapper taste better as the GT was quite tough & fishy. But overall it was satisfying:D

It's my turn

Lady luck is really smiling on us these days heehee..I caught a 'mum would be happy size' John snapper on the following day we caught GT. Interesting part was,

*I use frozen dead prawn recycled from previous day..
*Lousy recycled dupont leader, line already badly bitten by numerous nasty puffers, too lazy to tie..
*Poor cast, my line sungkuk at rod tip while throwing so was very near to shore..
*My 1st cast of the day!!
The bite was early at 8am. My daiwa spin bended heavily to the right and I was lucky to retrieve my catch quite effortlessly because the panicky snapper had already put up a supposingly long struggle after swallowing my bait and was swimming to the right side of the shore much to my ignorance. I can reel in quite steadily because I think he had already tire himself out while I was goofing around at our resting spot!
When I 1st caught a glimpse of the fish, I thought was a big javelin grunter! I have been hopping to catch an adult size grunter and really thought I got it tis time. Only realised what it was until I recognize the 'orh kee' on the fish. Not bad leh, john snapper!:D

Mike trying to keep my fish alive with the mouth clip

Video of us retrieving snapper to go home

Our malay friend told us to clean scale in water for less mess. It works.

Yeah..I think my snapper heavier than mike's GT heehee sorry dear..but funny, how come the 'orh kee' disappear??

His glorious ending!

We caught GT again!!!!

We thought it is almost impossible to catch another one again since our 1st during june. But we did it again!
Mike picked me up 1st at 6.45am and then Gab from his hse. Went to tackle shop at changi to get live prawn before we hit the beach arnd 7plus. Good, beach not occupied.
All was quite and and there was no drastic movement on our rods. I didn't come with a hopeful heart and thought the day would just end with zero catch again. At 9.25am, sharp eyed Gab startled me suddenly when he spotted dear's spinner shaking violently. All these while I was peeping at him luring hoping to pick some tips as I recently try luring for a change. Mike was a distance away and was totally unaware of the commotion. I sprang to the rod before dear did and striked immediately to claim our prized catch..
It was a tough fight...hand hurts and was very heavy on the other end, I couldn't handle with my limited strength so Mike quickly took over. He got so excited fighting the fish and couldn't stop screaming " GAB! GOT FISH! BIG ONE! I GOT IT!! ARGHH!"
The fish dashed to the right as Mike reeled it closer to the shore. I knew instantly it was not a catfish or stingray because they dun fight in this manner. As Mike landed the fish successfully, we were thrilled it was a GT! And it was even BIGGER than the 1st one we caught!Yeeah!!

Top ring came off..I dunno how I broke it during the fight. But it was worthwhile:D

This fella was already cleaned before weighing so should weigh around 700g initially(I only pass dear the scale following day). Frankly speaking, we thought this GT is at least 1kg because it was really heavy when we held it. Our next aim..1kg or more!
Nice catch dear:D

Outrageous cat

I am so stunned abt this cat. Why is she spreading her legs in such manner..she is completely oblivious to the surrounding and was enjoying her wonderful afternoon nap floating with creamy dreamy tuna. I hope she dun get trampled by some nasty cat haters..

New tackle shop at bedok

Just want to share about this 3 weeks old tackle shop. Mike discovered this shop and of course we make our way there to 'investigate' further.
Bought quite numbers of things there like weights, handline, and the most worth to mention, my new 5' ft pioneer telescopic rod!
They are quite fully equip despite is a small shop. You can find almost any thing you need for all types of fishing. I am quite amazed to find they provide all sort of baits like sarong, frozen dead fillet and even live prawn! The live prawns are selling for only $2.50/100g if u bring ur own container. We dun hav to feel the pinch to use live prawn anymore heheh..just remember to call them to check stock availability.
Now I know we dun hav to travel far just to get our supplies.

Steamed Lala

I always bug my mum to buy lala during weekend so i can enjoy this all time fav dish. It is simple to cook and tastes really satisfying. She usually get from the same stall she frequent for nearly 20 years and the fishmonger will always set some aside during sat just in case she wants.
Here is the best way to cook them as they retain their original sweetness & tenderness 原汁原味..

500g Lala, soak in salted water till they spit sand
2 chilli padi, sliced (optional if kids protest)
2 clove garlic, chopped
1 thumb ginger, shredded
1 stalk of chopped spring onion
2 tbsp shao xing hua diao wine
1 tbsp light soy sauce
1 tsp cooking oil
Pinch of chicken powder(optional)
Add some water if u want to drink the 'soup'.

1. Place lala in a steamer plate. Except spring onion, add all seasoning and ingredients in lala plate to mix well.
2. Steam over medium heat for about 7mins or till shells open.
3. Sprinkle spring onion & serve.

Leather Jacket in black soy sauce

1 reg leather jac or few small (make sure leather is ripped off)
thumb size ginger shredded
2 clove garlic
1 tbsp cooking oil
2 tbsp black soy sauce
1 tbsp soya bean paste(tau jio)
1/2 cup warm water
1/2 tsp sugar
dash of pepper
Chopped spring onion

1. Heat oil in saucepan and and stir fry garlic & ginger till fragrant followed by bean paste & black soy sauce.
2. Pour warm water to simmer till bubbled and add fish for flavour to seep through. Add sugar to taste.
3. Lastly, sprinkle chopped spring onion and dash of pepper. Serve.

New rod suprise

Mike bought me this 5ft telescopic rod $18 at a new tackle shop near bedok stadium, and I am so happy to catch a Fan bellied leather at the first cast:D

Mike thoughtfully armed it with braided line..
I love them, I eat them..look here for recipe.

Flounder Caught

We made a comeback at east coast seafood centre yesterday after a few unsuccessful attempts previously. Caught nothing significant except a small flounder and a stingray. The stingray was promptly returned to the sea except the flounder because it was already 'coughing blood' due to my deadly hook.

This time, I fastened tamban rigs to Mike's small rod for test..I ended up getting nasty eeltail catfish again! I duno why they are everywhere and getting hungrier to feed even in the day!!! They take all sizes of hook and all types of bait and FEED ANYTIME! I wonder why other 'high class' fish cannot be like them? Fishing would have been much easier and enjoyable!
